Supreme Dichotomy

I could begin the material for this blog with any number of subjects... I would like to begin with the matter of Time and cosmic origins, but there is a prevailing concept to my understanding which must be addressed first and foremost, as it presides over and informs all others: the "Supreme Dichotomy".

First, I will address and acknowledge the widespread dismissal of "dualism" in modern Western spirituality. There are all manner of ways to dismiss its legitimacy by way of pointing out and demonstrating the fuzzy gray-spaces, complexities, and perspective variability that come with the simple dumbing down of cosmic forces into good or evil, white or black, order or chaos. These arguments are in my view totally valid. However, I suggest that in spite of these points, dualities exist and permeate all things around us. Black and white, despite the existence of gray, are opposite colors and in some cases the only available options on a given point. It is a simple dichotomy. Likewise, however much you may disagree with representation or real-world translative accuracy, good and evil can be found to have common descriptions even while overlapping. I would suggest that fiction tends to emphasize culturally held qualities for good/evil for various reasons including reader engagement, cultural acceptance/expectation, tradition, a passion for the familiar, and ease of translating story elements into character dynamics. But even without going into the truth or falsehood of good vs. evil, I want to point out that dichotomies are inherent to the Universe. Computers use binary computation - 1's and 0's (yes, other options are present and rarely used, but this dichotomy would exist even if no human used binary); we have left and right hands; trees have roots and branches; faucets dispense water in terms of hotness/coldness; cashiers offer goods storage via bags of paper or plastic; natural water comes in fresh and salt forms; 24-hour periods are divided into day and night. I will point out that every one of the dichotomies above can be demonstrated to have options beyond the two indicated; this does not mean there is no dichotomy. One may consider it a level of perspective or frame of reference - one that is not alone as an option but which can be used and will yield certain results when employed.

Why use dichotomies? Besides the fact that they are all around us and must be considered in some dimension if we don't want to be blind to a widespread element of the Universe, they serve as a very simple perspective springboard. Such is useful for beginning to tackle complex concepts (simplification), finding the root of a matter, finding patterns across concepts which otherwise seem to have no correlation, or.. sometimes you will simply find yourself referencing a thing which is known to have a natural opposite.

Now comes the fun part. Several years ago I noticed something interesting. The Latin words for "father" and "mother" - patron and matron - looked to me like two modern English words: pattern and matter. I considered the reproductive process, where the bulk of the mother's contribution is the egg (dominant in terms of matter), with the father's contribution being mostly genetic information (patterns of gene sequences (yes both do this, the point is in the difference of ratio)). These days I will say the father/mother connection is not so important. What I came to at that time, and hold to to this day, is that the fundamental constituents of all that is, everywhere and anywhere, are Pattern and Matter.

So, what's up with Pattern and Matter? One of my dominant theories is that they are the bases of the Supreme Dichotomy. Not all dichotomies fall into this, and through the complexities of the universe, both pattern and matter find themselves on either side of the "line" (due in part to universal components mixing/matching/combining/detaching). At any rate, what follows is a basic chart for this dichotomy which I have noticed:

PATTERN / MATTER
Wave / Particle
Time / Space
Virtue / Sin
Mind / Body
Cold / Hot
Ice / Fire
Light / Dark
Order / Chaos

A general sense of patterns should point out a few things. For example, light, composed of photons, is still a type of matter, but the least "mattery" of known atomic particles. Time, likewise, has in fact no known atomic particle, while (empty) space is said to be full of positive and negative particles constantly forming and destroying each other. The latter description of space is a prime example of chaos, while patterns are by definition about regular occurences, set sequence, etc. The body is composed of matter, while the mind is an abstract description of the moreover non-physical "things" that pass through our head (despite anchoring in the brain). Whether or not you agree, it is common to associate the body with matters of sin (sex, food, drugs) and the mind with matters of virtue (thoughtfulness, consideration, meditation).

On a deeper philosophical level, I personally wonder if there is not some deeper essence to the Supreme Dichotomy that may be close to pattern/matter but more distilled / less concrete - something for which we have no words in English. It would help the issue of crossovers within the distinctions.

That, then, is all for this entry! The Supreme Dichotomy (with special emphasis on pattern vs. matter) is a regular occurrence in my work, and has come to inform every metaphysical concept I have in some way. Take it as you will, and by all means let me know your own thoughts!

Introduction

Hello everyone. I am writing this blog as an expression of and outlet for my many concepts about the Universe (or as I call it, the Omnicosmos). It is my belief that the creation of the universe acknowledge by modern Earth science (which I and others refer to as the Manifested Plane) is not by far the first event in all that exists to take place. My "stuff" is the result of years of inspiration, contemplation of the implications of facts presented by trusted sources, and "figuring out". I do not believe my concept is infallibly accurate, though there are elements I personally hold as beyond all doubt. Take it as you will.

There are plenty of pagans, polytheists, etc. in the modern day around the world, but I do not often find them discussing matters of the universe to the metaphysical depth I have delved into. I am by no means limited to one pantheon, and as suggested, my concepts stretch back far further than the Big Bang (or whatever happened there/then). The ultimate goal is a comprehensive concept/knowledge of the nature, functioning, and history of all things.
